Applications


Used as a preservative for bread; pastry and cheese and as a mould inhibitor for feed. As a food preservative, calcium propionate is mainly used in bread because sodium propionate raises the ph of bread and delays the fermentation of raw pasta; sodium propionate is mostly used in pastry because synthetic bulking agents are used for pastry puffing and there are no problems with yeast development caused by rising pH. When used as a feed preservative, sodium propionate is more effective than calcium propionate


However, calcium propionate is more stable than sodium propionate. Propionate is used in food in addition to bread; pastry; cheese, etc. It can also be used in soy sauce to prevent mould and inhibit re-fermentation. In medicine, propionate can be made into a bulk; solution and ointment for the treatment of diseases caused by skin parasitic moulds. Ointment (liquid) contains 12.3% sodium propionate and bulk contains 15% calcium propionate.

Uses


Calcium Propionate is a new type of food additive, approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as a safe and reliable mould inhibitor for food and feed. Calcium propionate has a wide range of antibacterial effects on moulds, yeasts and bacteria.


1. Calcium propionate can be used as a mould inhibitor for food and feed, and as a preservative for bread and pastry. Calcium propionate is easily mixed with flour and acts as a preservative while providing essential calcium to fortify food.


2. Calcium propionate inhibits moulds and aerobic bacilli, which cause slimy substances in bread, but not yeast.


3. Effective against moulds, aerobic bacilli, gram-negative bacteria and aflatoxins in starch, protein and fat containing substances, with unique anti-mould and preservative properties.


4. It is a new and safe, highly effective, broad-spectrum mould inhibitor for food and brewing, feed, Chinese medicine preparations and other aspects.


5. Calcium propionate as a feed additive can effectively inhibit mould and prolong the shelf life of feed, and if combined with other inorganic salts can also improve the appetite of livestock and milk production of cows. Calcium propionate is less volatile, more resistant to high temperatures and is suitable for use in a wide range of feeds.


6. Calcium propionate can also be used as an additive in toothpaste and cosmetics, providing a good antiseptic effect.


7. A new type of feed additive, mainly used as an anti-mould agent to extend the shelf life of feed. It has a good effect on moulds, aerobic budding bacteria and gram-negative bacteria, and can also inhibit the production of aflatoxin, while it is harmless to yeast, harmless to humans and animals, and has no toxic side effects. It can also be used as a preservative for food.
